The parts are a variety of shapes and intricacies.

Contaminants

Dirt, grease, silicone sealant, and paint

Equipment

Sonicor model ultrasonic, ultrasonic wash, spray rinse, ultrasonic rinse, and hot air dry

Chemistries/Solutions Used

Optimum Cleaning Systems Ultrasonic Cleaner at a 10:1 diluted ratio, heated to 150°F, OCS R-1001 solvent, and RO water heated to 155°F

Testing

5 tests were completed, parts were being inspected under black light before being cleaned, some parts (valves) had sealants on the threads, and other parts had adhesives or paint. Parts were cleaned in a 2 step process in the ultrasonic and then rinsed and dried. Most sealants and paints were removed.

Conclusion

Because paint can be removed and some of the sealants need to have a solvent to loosen them prior to cleaning and is recommended to have a 5 tank system.
