Bearings

Subject

Cleans excess adhesive and oil that has been cooked onto the surface of stainless steel bearing.

Equipment

2 Sonicor Ultrasonic machines with sweep frequency

Chemistry

OCS Ultrasonic Cleaner used at an 8:1 dilution ration heated to 165 °F

Tests

Test 1: Bearing 1 had the most contaminants and was the only bearing out of 5 that the ball would not turn. It was cleaned for 1 hour and inspected at 5 minute intervals until contaminants were removed. The bearing was not rinsed and it was blown dry with shop air

Test 2 : 2 bearings were cleaned ultrasonically for 5 minutes and inspected under black light. They seemed to appear clean and were blown dry with shop air.

Test 3: 2 bearings were cleaned in ultrasonics, rinsed, and dried with radiant heat.

Conclusion

If tests 2 and 3 show that the parts are cleaned, then cleaning can be done in 5 minutes. Rinsing maybe needed depending on the manufacturers needs.
