Blind Holes
Subject
Flux and contaminant removal from aluminum parts, with gold wire leads (1 part) and blind holes
Find a method to dry: it becomes a problem when water is trapped in small blind holes
Method of Cleaning
Parts were cleaned by using a Sonicor Series console. Consisted of 1 ultrasonic, 40 KHZ wash chamber, 1 cascade rinse chamber, 1 cascade rinse with ultrasonic rinse chamber and 1 forced hot air dry chamber.
Tests
4 steps were completed, which included heating the wash chamber to 120° F at a 10:1 dilution ratio. Parts were cleaned and inspected under a black light and some flux remained. Total clean time was 10 minutes and parts were rinsed in 2 steps then parts were dried at 250° F
Conclusion
These parts can be cleaned in 10 minutes and needs to be cleaned at 120°F if the flux is kester RMA. The parts should have an 80% DI/20% isopropyl alcohol ultrasonic final rinse to get good, fast, low heat drying.
